What areas do LEB Construction serve?
Based in Aberystwyth, our construction company delivers projects across Ceredigion and beyond as a multi-disciplined main contractor.

What does a full refurbishment mean?
A full refurbishment is extensive work to restore and update an existing building to a good modern standard without fundamentally changing its main structure or layout. This might include:
-
Renewing roofs, windows, doors, and finishes
-
Improving energy performance, insulation, and services
-
Bringing older buildings up to current standards while keeping their character
Where structural or functional changes are required, this would usually be described as an alteration, extension, or renovation project. LEB delivers all of these, not just straight refurbishments.

Do I need building regs for a refurbishment?
Many refurbishment projects do require building regulations approval, especially where works affect structure, fire safety, insulation, energy performance, drainage, or services. Some minor like for like repairs can be exempt.
We always recommend that building regulations requirements are checked at an early stage with your designer or building control body. As principal contractor, we work closely with the professional team to make sure that all works are carried out in accordance with the approved details.

Can you make repairs to a listed building?
Yes. LEB Construction has extensive experience delivering works to listed and historic buildings.
Some minor repairs may not need formal listed building consent, but many works, especially those involving material changes, alterations, or structural interventions, will require it. We normally work alongside conservation architects and the local planning and conservation officers to agree the scope of work and details before we start on site.
Our in-house teams specialise in:

-
Carpentry and joinery
-
Roofing
-
Sensitive internal and external alterations and repairs

Why restore historic buildings?
Historic buildings are often irreplaceable in terms of character, craftsmanship, and cultural value. Restoring them:
-
Preserves an important part of local and national heritage
-
Can be less wasteful and lower in embodied carbon than demolition and rebuild
-
Allows buildings to be modernised for energy efficiency and accessibility while retaining their original features
Many of our flagship projects involve carefully upgrading historic buildings so that they remain safe, efficient, and usable for the next generation.

What types of clients does LEB Construction work with?
As experienced building contractors, we work with a wide range of public and private clients, including:
-
Local authorities
-
Universities and colleges
-
Housing associations
-
Public sector heritage institutions, such as the National Library of Wales
-
Energy companies and utilities
-
Private developers and commercial property owners
We have a strong track record across heritage, education, and public sector work, as well as complex commercial refurbishments, where our role as principal contractors ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.

Does LEB Construction carry out passive fire protection works?
Yes. LEB Construction is a BM TRADA Q-Mark certified contractor for Fire Door Installation (FDI), Fire Door Maintenance (FDM), and Fire Stopping (FSI). Our certified fire protection division delivers compliant installations, inspections, and remedial works across new build, refurbishment, and live occupied buildings.
We manage all certification and documentation through OneTrace, ensuring a complete Golden Thread of information from survey through to handover.
Typical services include:
-
Installation and maintenance of fire doors and frames
-
Fire stopping to service penetrations and junctions
All works are completed by trained, accredited operatives under strict quality assurance procedures to meet the latest Building Safety Act and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order requirements.

Does LEB Construction offer design and build services?
Yes. For suitable projects, we can provide a design and build service. This means we work with our design partners to develop and coordinate the design while also acting as principal contractor for the construction works.
This approach can simplify communication, shorten programme, and give clearer cost control, as design and construction responsibilities sit with one main contractor.

How does LEB Construction ensure quality on every project?
Quality is built into the way we plan, manage, and deliver every project. Our approach to construction project management ensures that each stage is carefully controlled and fully documented from start to finish.
This includes:
-
Projects led by experienced site managers and contracts managers
-
Delivery by time-served, skilled, and qualified trades, supported by trusted specialist subcontractors
-
Robust planning, sequencing, and pre-construction coordination
-
Formal quality control procedures, inspections, and sign-offs at each stage
-
Clear records, photographs, and comprehensive handover information for the client team
For fire-related works, we utilise our BM TRADA Q-Mark certification and OneTrace digital records to ensure full traceability and compliance for all fire protection installations.
Our aim is that every project meets or exceeds specification, statutory requirements, and client expectations, with minimal defects at completion.
