LEB Construction awarded landmark new school project

LEB Construction is delighted to have been awarded a contract by Ceredigion County Council for the renovation and extension works at Cardigan Primary School, a landmark project for the town.

This is the largest-value contract awarded to LEB to date, at £2.73m, and consists of a 64-week programme of works.

The focal point of the project is the new inspiring entrance to the school. A redesigned reception area will be complemented by vibrant new colours along the front façade, which will now be finished in a combination of new long-lasting and low-maintenance cladding materials, with finishes including Aged Ash contrasted with striking Passion Red. New polyester powder-coated aluminium doors and windows will be finished in a modern grey colour.

Once they have been greeted by the reimagined and more spacious school reception area, pupils and staff will reap the rewards of having more space within the school through the incorporation of an area previously exposed to the elements.

Overall, the works will provide the school with two new classrooms, a new staff support area and a two-storey rear extension with additional fire exits and toilets. A large link extension will marry the Junior and infant parts of the school. Furthermore, we will be installing a lift to provide access to the Junior’s block.

Managing the project alongside LEB Construction are the Ceredigion County Council Projects Team and SP Projects. The design team consists of TACP Architects, Engineering Services Design Limited and JP Structural Design; LEB is the final piece of the jigsaw to take this vision and planning consent to reality.

Luke Baker, Managing Director, LEB Construction Limited, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious project by Ceredigion County Council. To be able to deliver this extension and refurbishment to the Cardigan Primary School will give us great pride, knowing that we have been a small part in inspiring the current and future generations who attend the school. These works will give the children of Cardigan a first-class facility in which to learn.”

Working across the public and private sectors, LEB Construction has established itself as the premier contractor in Ceredigion, delivering high-quality and inspiring projects across the region.

“As a firm, we promote local sustainability and investment. Our talented and skilled workforce is locally sourced, as are the contractors that we work with,” added Baker.

Following a short preconstruction and mobilisation period, works commenced on site this summer.

The 18 July start on site has allowed the team to drive the project hard while pupils and staff are away from the school enjoying their summer holidays.
